The US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed through a press release that there will be no additional extensions of the temporary Form I-9 COVID-19 remote inspection policy (often referred to as virtual I-9) which is set to expire on July 31, 2023.
In addition, ICE announced that employers will only have an additional 30 days beyond the July 31 deadline (i.e., until Aug 30, 2023) to conduct any necessary physical inspections of documents that were previously reviewed in a virtual fashion. ICE also stated that the new proposed rule that would allow "alternative" procedures on a more permanent basis will not arrive until later in the year.
