Common Search Functionality

The Avionté Web Platform's search functionality is specialized within each application area - for example, the search function in the Talent area is designed to search specifically for Talent - however, there are some search characteristics shared across all areas of the Avionté Web Platform.

Search Field

The search field is located at the top-left of each Avionté Web Platform page beneath the area selections. This search returns records related to the current page - when on the Talent page, the search field will only return Talent results.



New Search

New Search, the search field's default setting, is used to perform a search in an area for the first time. 

  1. Click the New search button next to the search field.

  2. Type content into the search field.

  3. Press Enter on the keyboard or click the  icon to generate search results based on the field content.




Saved Searches

Once a search has been performed, it can be saved for repeated use. 


  1. After generating results with a new search, click Save search.

  2. A Save search window displays. Enter a name for the saved search.

  3. Click Done. A confirmation will display. The saved search is now available in the drop-down menu next to the search field. 


Saved Search 


To make a change to a saved search, click the name of the saved search from the drop-down menu and update the search parameters. Click Save Search to save the search with the new parameters.

If a saved search is displayed, but changes are not made, nothing will happen if Save Search is clicked.

Up to six searches can be saved. If six searches are saved, a newly saved search will be added to the group and the oldest saved search will be deleted.
Saved search results update as new individuals are added to the Avionté Web Platform. Vice-versa, if an individual's record is modified so it no longer meets the saved search criteria, the individual will no longer be included in that saved search.




Filters narrow down search results to include only those results that meet selected criteria. Each area's search features its own filters designed specifically for characteristics of that area. For details specific to each area's search behavior, click the help page links displayed near the top of this page.


Apply Filters

  1. Enter search keywords into the search field.

  2. Press Enter on your keyboard or click the  icon to generate search results based on the field content. The number of available records is displayed in parentheses in the Filter area.

  3. To apply a specific filter, click a check box to filter by that specific criteria.
    • Multiple check boxes may be selected.
    • Click More... to expand filter areas with more than 10 selections.

  4. Click Apply Filters to generate search results based on the search field content and the applied filters. 


Clear Filters

Click Clear Filters to return to results generated based only on content entered into the search field.


If filters have not yet been applied, but check boxes have been selected, clicking "Clear Filters" will de-select all of the check boxes.



Boolean/Advanced Search

Boolean - also referred to as Advanced Search - is a type of text search that combines keywords with operators such as AND, NOT, and OR to refine search results. Boolean operators do not need to be capitalized.


As an example, the phrase "alaska OR mechanic" entered into the Talent search field will generate Talent records containing either "alaska" or "mechanic." 


Boolean Operators

Keywords combined with operators such as AND, NOT, and OR help refine search results. Boolean operators do not need to be capitalized.


When multiple Boolean operators are used in a search (e.g. Microsoft AND developer NOT architect), NOT takes precedence over AND, which takes precedence over OR. 


Multiple terms or clauses can be grouped together with parentheses ((quick OR brown) AND fox) to form sub-queries. Items in parentheses are addressed first and in left to right order when multiple parentheses are present. 



Use AND to narrow a search.

“Microsoft AND java” narrows results to only those containing both “Microsoft” and “java.”


Use NOT to narrow a search.

“Microsoft NOT java” narrows results to only those containing “Microsoft” but not containing “java.”


User OR to broaden a search.

“Microsoft OR java” broadens a search to results containing “Microsoft” or “java.”



A system called Avionté Enterprise Search (AES) is incorporated into the Avionté Web Platform to provide high-speed repository lookup coupled with Boolean statement parsing to provide a fast, flexible search.  Behind the scenes, there is a complex natural language parse engine that uses a variety of analyzers to provide the high-speed search. Avionté uses Agent jobs and specific Amazon Web Services to keep this data up to date as it is changed by users for employee, order, contact, customer, and job posting information, with more being added as needed. How fast the data is updated is dependent on how quickly any of the given Agent jobs execute - the standard cycle is ~ five seconds.




Search Tips

In the Avionté Web Platform, the fields in Talent, Orders, Companies, and Contacts have specific names specialized to their area. The Talent area features a "LastName" field, the Orders area features a field called "CustomerName."

Specific searches can be performed in these areas by entering the name of the field followed by a value. For instance, the phrase "LastName: Peterson" will generate a list of Talent containing "Peterson" in the LastName field. 


This search method also works with Boolean/Advanced Search operators described above. The phrase "lastName: Peterson OR lastName: Smith" entered into a Talent search will generate results containing the last names Peterson or Smith. 


Note that the term "lastName" is used for each value. Entering the phrase "lastName: Peterson OR Smith" will ignore the "Smith," only producing results for values with a field name directly preceding.


The table below highlights some useful search structures to help refine results.


FieldName: (parentheses) 

Example - lastName: (Peterson OR Smith)

The field name followed by values and an operator in parentheses avoids the need to type the field name multiple times. Without the parentheses, the structure must be "lastName: Peterson OR lastName: Smith" to generate results.

Math Operators

Example - accountant + Microsoft apple; 

Math operators can replace the standard Boolean AND, OR, and NOT operators. When used in the Talent area, for example, this structure matches any record containing "Microsoft" but not "apple," and adds relevancy if the Microsoft individual is an accountant. 

Operators include +, -, =, <, >, <=, >= 

Similar Word Match

Example: manager~

When a tilde (~) is used after a single word, the search performs a fuzzy match based on similarity. In other words, the search will offer results that come close to the entered word, and may provide results that include terms with an incorrect or close spelling, such as "manager" misspelled as “manger.”

Similar Phrase Match

Example: “Microsoft excel”~

When a tilde (~) is used with a phrase, the search weights the words in the phrase based on proximity (rather than matching the exact phrase). This search will match any record that includes both "Microsoft" and "excel," and will give the most weight to records that have the complete phrase.
