Austin, TX: Effective October 1, 2018
Austin City Council passed an ordinance in February requiring paid sick leave, making it the first city to do so in the state of Texas. Employers with more than 15 employees will be required to provide up to 64 hours of accrued paid sick leave a year, accruing at a rate of 1 sick hour for every 30 hours worked. Employees can carry over any unused accrued hours into the following year, up to the annual accrual maximum.
New Jersey: Effective October 29, 2018
New Jersey became the 10th state requiring paid sick leave, pre-empting the existing municipal ordinances in New Jersey regarding sick leave. Employers of all sizes will be required to provide up to 40 hours of accrued paid sick leave a year, accruing at a rate of 1 sick hour for every 30 hours worked. Employees can carry over any unused accrued hours into the following year, up to the annual accrual maximum of 40 hours.
Prior to the October effective dates, Avionté will release Accrual Plans for both mandated paid sick leave plans to hosted clients.
Once released, impacted clients will need to ensure the required set up is completed prior to using, including making the accrual plan active and associating add/deplete transaction types to the plan.
