What is the new feature? | Employee | Payroll | Tax - US - NM/ND/UT using Fed Filing status |
Why did we do that? | With this enhancement, for payroll tax calculations, the federal filing status configuration will be used for Utah, New Mexico, and North Dakota. |
What's next? |
Utah, New Mexico, and North Dakota follow the Federal configuration as they do not utilize an independent W-4. However, each state has independent requirements around Add WH, Exempt, and Non-resident Alien. Therefore, each of these states can be manually configured independently under Employee > Payroll > Tax. To stay compliant with the authority rules:
For employees who have UT, NM, or ND state filing status that is different from federal filing status, these existing employees will return a different state calculation within the system because we are automatically defaulting to the federal filing status. This change will make the employee's calculations more compliant. No action needs to be done to sync these two filing statuses as our logic will always look to federal. The nominal difference in the calculation will be vetted out a yearend when the talent files their W2. |
