1. Vertex decommissioned Geocodes removal in Classic
Improvement: Avionte Classic has removed the decommissioned Vertex Geocodes from the existing customer base.
Why? Our third-party service removes outdated geocodes. This helps our customers by clearing these outdated geocodes from addresses. Users will be alerted if they try to use addresses with invalid geocodes, allowing them to choose the correct geocode for that specific address.
How does this impact you? When processing a transaction, a notification will occur by the Data Requirement Message [DRM] of a missing geocode for an Order or Employee, allowing the user the opportunity to update the employee or order with the accurate geocode for that address.

2. Paid Leave | Chicago [Effective 1/1/2024]
Improvement: Avionte Classic's has now added a new Chicago Paid Leave to be effective 01/01/2024.
Why? Effective Jan. 1, 2024, the City of Chicago requires employers to provide paid leave to employees who work in the state.
How does this impact you?

3. Canadian Employer Health Tax Updates [Effective 1/1/2023] for Newfoundland Health and Post Secondary Education Tax to default exemption of 2 million
Improvement: Classic Avionte has updated the Newfoundland Health and Post Secondary Education Tax
Why?
- Effective 1 January 2023, the exemption threshold for Newfoundland Health and Post Secondary Education Tax increased from $1.3 million to $2 million.
How does this impact you?
When configuring the Newfoundland Health and Post Secondary Education Tax under Admin Tools > Employer > Tax for 2024, the system will use the following defaults unless the user configures an override:
- NL HAPSET ER Default exemption: $2,000,000
- NL HAPSET ER Default rate: 2%

4. Montana filing status [Effective 1/1/2024]
Improvement: Classic Avionte Employee > Payroll > Tax > Tax Set Up has been updated to accommodate the new Montana Filing Status, effective 1/1/2024.
Why? Montana's Department of Revenue has updated the new 2024 MW-4 with the same pre-2020 federal filing statuses.
How does this impact you?
Under Employee > Payroll > Tax > Tax Set Up the following filing statuses will now be available to select:
- Single or married filing separately
- Married filing jointly or qualifying widower
- Head of Household
- Single
- Married.
- Married filing jointly two spouses working
If no filing status is specified, the status of Single or married filing separately will be used.

1. Alabama Overtime Exemption [Effective 1/1/2024]
Improvement: Classic Avionte updated the logic to accommodate the new Alabama Overtime Pay Exemption implemented by the Alabama Department of Revenue effective 1/1/2024.
Why? Overtime earnings that qualify for Alabama withholdings, between January 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, will be excluded from gross income and therefore exempt from Alabama state income tax.
How does this impact you?

Any earnings that are Alabama Withholding qualified and are entered through Avionte's Standard OT and DT transaction types will be considered qualified for the Alabama Overtime Pay Exemption [ONLY these two standard transaction types qualify].

It is the Employers responsibility to ensure that employees who qualify for Alabama Withholdings must have the appropriate OT Plan configured for that employee to ensure that the system determining OT/DT adheres to the 40-hour minimum qualification.

It is the Employers responsibility to ensure that any manual entry to the Standard OT and DT transaction types, the employee has met the 40-hour minimum qualification, otherwise the employer should apply the Overtime and Doubletime amounts to a non-standard transaction types to have the earnings NOT fall under the Alabama Overtime Pay Exemption.

5. Canadian Employer Health Tax Updates [Effective 1/1/2024]
Improvement: Classic Avionte has updated the Manitoba Health and Post Secondary Tax Levy default exemption amount for 01/01/2024. British Columbia, and Ontario Default exemptions and rates remain the same as 2023.
Why?
- Effective 1 January 2024, the exemption threshold for the Manitoba Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Levy is increased from $2 million to $2.25 million of annual remuneration.
How does this impact you?
When configuring the Manitoba Health and Post-Secondary Education Tax Levy under Admin Tools > Employer > Tax for 2024, the system will use the following defaults unless the user configures an override:
- MB HELEVY ER Default exemption: ​**$2,250,000 [updated 2024]**
- MB HELEVY ER Default rate: 4.3% [same as 2023]
When configuring the British Columbia Employer Health tax under Admin Tools > Employer > Tax for 2024, the system will use the following defaults unless the user configures an override:
- BC EHT ER Default exemption: $500,000
- BC EHT ER Default rate: 2.925%
When configuring the Ontario Employer Health tax under Admin Tools > Employer > Tax for 2024, the system will use the following defaults unless the user configures an override:
- ON EHT ER Default exemption: $1,000,000
- ON EHT ER Default rate: 1.95%
When configuring the Newfoundland Health and Post Secondary Education Tax under Admin Tools > Employer > Tax for 2024, the system will use the following defaults unless the user configures an override:

6. South Carolina [SC] – Standard Occupational Code Support [Effective 1/1/2024]
- All Skill codes will require an associated SOC code for South Carolina employees. Skill Codes are configured under System > Skill Code > SOC LookUp.
- When generating quarterly data in Green Shades under Weekly Process > Generate Green Shade, if there is payroll data in SC, the user will receive a notification when there is a missing SOC code.

7. Ability to flag the Required parameters for the Import/Export
- Under Admin Tools > Report > Advance Query > Advance Query Details a new column IsRequired checkbox has been added and will be utilized to identify those parameters that are required for Export/Import.
- Once the required parameters are identified, when opening the export under Import Export > Import Export Batch Wizard > Parameter table will now display a Required column that identifies the required parameters.
- The user will experience the following notification if a required parameter is missing and detail the missing required parameter: "There are required parameters missing a value. Accounting Period"
- All existing Advanced Queries will have no checked Required parameters. The User must review their existing Advanced Queries and if they would like to make specific parameters required, they do this by checking the "IsRequired" box.

Improvement:
Canada Revenue Agency [CRA] has implemented the Year's Additional Maximum Pensionable Earnings [YAMPE], resulting in a second additional Canada Pension Plan Contribution [CPP2].
Why?
Canada Revenue Agency [CRA] will be implementing an update to their CPP enhancement rollout. Effective January 1, 2024, a higher second earnings ceiling of $73,200, known as the Year’s Additional Maximum Pensionable Earnings [YAMPE], will be implemented and used to determine second additional CPP contributions [CPP2]. For more information refer to the following CRA links:

- In 2024, employee's pensionable earnings between $68,500 and $73,200 are subject to CPP2 contributions at 4% [Employers are responsible for the 4% match].

- The pay statement will continue to reflect CPP contributions as a singular statutory deduction but will reflect the values of CPP and/or CPP2 [if both are present it will be combined and reflected as one contribution.]
