Understanding This Report

What This Report Shows You

The Gross Profit and Hours Comparison report displays billed hours and profitability data across two date ranges you define — a First Date Range and a Second Date Range — along with the calculated Difference between them. Each row represents a unique combination of employer, office, department, job type, WC code, and user, giving you a detailed, side-by-side comparison of how bill hours, bill amount, GP-adjusted bill, gross profit, and gross profit percentage changed between the two periods.

Why Use This Report

This report helps you manage day-to-day operations and answer critical questions:

  • How did gross profit change for a specific office, department, or job type between two periods?
  • Which users saw the largest increase or decrease in billed hours period-over-period?
  • Are GP% margins trending up or down for a particular company or job type?
  • How much did burden costs affect profitability across the two periods?
  • Which region or office experienced the biggest swing in gross profit?
  • How did rolling results up to the parent company change the profitability picture?

Reading the Data

The Gross Profit and Hours Comparison report displays each employer, office, department, job type, and user combination as a separate row with comprehensive bill hours and profitability details for the First Date Range, the Second Date Range, and the Difference between them. The extensive field list allows you to export exactly the information you need for your specific use case.

Note: Transaction Employer, Transaction Region, Transaction Office, Company, Department, Job Type, WC Code, and User remain fixed in place as you scroll horizontally through the report, so these identifying columns stay visible while you review the First Date Range, Second Date Range, and Difference metric columns.

Practical Applications

The Gross Profit and Hours Comparison report empowers finance and operations teams to measure real progress instead of guessing at trends. Branch managers can celebrate offices where gross profit climbed period-over-period and identify which job types or companies drove the improvement. Finance managers strengthen margin analysis by toggling the burden factor on and off to see profitability from both perspectives, while executive leadership gets a clear, side-by-side view of which regions are elevating overall performance. Because every row breaks results down by employer, office, department, job type, and user, teams can drill into exactly where hours and profitability grew—or pinpoint the specific segment behind a dip—and take targeted action. Comparing any two periods you choose, not just consecutive ones, also lets you validate the impact of a new initiative or measure progress against a strong prior period.
